India

Not too long ago, during a yoga class in Portland, one of my yoga instructors Terry Peterson announced that he wanted to take six persons, preferably from the yoga studio (Julie Lawrence Yoga Center), to India for 21 days, leaving August 24. He offered it as a “yoga and walking tour.”
“I’m extremely excited to partner with Deepa Krishnan, owner of Magic Tours of India, to offer this tour of northern India. Deepa and I have put together an itinerary that is filled with yoga, walking, and a lots of fun and interesting adventures.” –Terry Peteresen
His India 2013 Yoga and Walking Tour site shows an itinerary that I could not resist. Walking, practicing yoga, a well-organized itinerary, an exotic country (to an American) makes for an excellent trip and a wonderful opportunity for adventure. Delhi Agra Jodhpur Ranakpur Udaipur Varanasi Delhi. I am seizing the moment.
Naturally, I want to discover India as much as possible before I go. I am reading Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo and most likely will read The Story of My Assassins: A Novel by Tarun J. Tejpal and The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. I happened to look at one of my favorite web sites kottke.org and saw a posting “A Day in India,” a short film that compiles three weeks of filming, traveling and eating in India into one day. Terry told me that much of it is shot in New Delhi. It is shy of four minutes, and worth watching to the end on a full screen.
